Exploring France with a Viking River Cruise and a Road Trip!

Traveling with Viking River Cruises has really opened our eyes to some pretty incredible sites! We've been to France a couple of times in the past, but in 2016 we decided to try a different approach.

Exploring France in the spring can pose some interesting obstacles but also many delights! Our month long adventure was an epic vacation and one I'll remember for years to come! We selected Viking's France's Finest as our second Viking River Cruise and added a road trip where we explored the French Riviera, Paris, Normandy Beaches, and Medieval Walled Cities.

We boarded Viking's Heimdal in Avignon and traveled north to Lyon! Unfortunately, the Seine was flooding and our connection from Paris to Normandy was adjusted a bit. We boarded the Viking Rinda outside of Paris and were quickly moved to the Viking Rolf in Rouen as the river continued to rise to flood level. We were not put off by this awkward move and thoroughly enjoyed our excursions. Rouen remained a base for us as we were bussed to nearby towns.

But this was not the end of our adventure by any means! Following the end of our cruise portion, we traveled by train from Paris to Caen where we rented a car and explored Bayeux, Normandy beaches, and Dinan, a medieval walled city in Brittany! Enjoy the highlights of our trip above and be sure to catch our expanded video of our month in France below!
