Norwegian Resistance Museum....

During our recent trip to Oslo, we had the opportunity to visit The Norwegian Resistance Museum which is located adjacent to the Akershus Fortress Complex. Our day was chilly and rainy but we walked to the museum and had hoped to visit the Akershus Castle. Unfortunately, it was Norway's National Holiday - Worker's Day which is much like our Labor Day but many of the stores and museums are closed.

After a long walk to the area, we were able to access the Resistance Museum and it brought back memories of our trip in Poland to the Warsaw Uprising Museum of WWII.

The Norwegian Resistance Museum tells the story of Norway's role during this critical time in our history. I was proud to see how the educators stood up to the Nazi's and refused to teach their Nazi propaganda. As a result they arrested 500 educators and shipped them off to hard labor camps. Many of the patriots featured in this museum were executed.

Norway was an inspiration with its national spirit and how it endured through occupation during such a malevolent time.

This museum is well worth a visit and hopefully you'll be able to view the Castle. Perhaps one day we'll be back and our timing will be better.

Hanseatic League Museum in Bergen....

Justin and I visited the Hanseatic League Museum which was a German trading guild. They would get the fish from Norway and give them grain from the Baltic region. Interesting museum and history.

Bergen holds some real treasures and if you're willing to walk through the winding streets, who knows what you'll find?

We enjoyed our time in Bergen and will be visiting it again in the fall with Viking's "In the Wake of the Vikings" ocean cruise. This will give us time to explore this beautiful city.

Happy Travels,
