Viking River Cruise: Cities of Lights

Selecting the right river cruise can be an overwhelming process. Choosing our first river cruise company and itinerary was an interesting process at best. I checked out the usual places like Cruise Critic and their reviews for various river cruise companies. Of course, the very visual commercials on PBS for Viking River Cruises always captured my imagination and I think that was the best selling aspect for me. Once Justin and I decided on Viking, the itinerary process began. So many places to see! Where do you begin?

I recall we ordered their cruise catalog so we could easily see all the itineraries and begin to digest the options. They do have an online catalog which you can sign up for and download to your computer. Their iPAD app is terrific and a link to download is provided once you sign up for their cruise catalog!

After tagging over 10 different itineraries, we set our sites on "Cities of Lights" with their Prague to Paris 12-day journey.

Viking says it best, I think, "Sail Europe’s most iconic rivers: the Main, lined with quaint villages; the castle-studded Rhine; and the Moselle with its steep vineyards. Explore Prague’s Lobkowicz Palace on a Privileged Access tour designed for us by Prince William. Delve into Nuremberg’s history at Nuremberg Castle and the former Nazi Rally Grounds. Taste legendary Moselle Rieslings. Savor Czech, German and French cuisine."

We began our trip with Viking's pre-cruise option in Prague for two nights. The Hilton Prague was our home base where we experienced delicious breakfasts and great service. It was conveniently located and had subway access within a couple of blocks. There is a nice shopping mall right behind the hotel in case you may need some supplies.

If you are in the area, be sure to check out their CZECHOUSE GRILL & ROTISSERIE! You can read my review on Trip Advisor!

Our cruise concluded with an overnight in Paris at the LeMeridien Etoile. Breakfast was included and sumptuous! The only downside to this hotel was WiFi access. You could only use it for free in the lobby.

All in all, Viking took very good care of us and provided several privileged access excursions. One, in particular, that I recommend is the Lobkowicz Palace!

We were sold on Viking after our first cruise and look forward to many more adventures!

Be sure to catch my videos! Perhaps "Cities of Lights" will be on your bucket list!

Happy travels to all!
